Lo! Gents! 發現的喜悅(RR-912)

釘在美國研究船Roger Revelle電儀室牆上的漫畫，不知誰改的(我猜是個藻類學家，參加過南大西洋西部海域的航次)。我喜歡這漫畫形容我在這航次經歷的心情。(原作者簽名在右上角，是Gary Larson，代表作是經典單幅諷刺漫畫The Far Side，原作在此：連結)

海裡長滿了鈣板金藻，Revelle變成大帆船，上頭都是西班牙征服者。
船長戴了眼罩，右手裝上鉤子，活像個海盜。
他們發現了巴塔哥尼亞，船長興奮地大叫：
「瞧瞧！各位！山嶺瑰麗！天際寬闊！原野豐饒！有誰記下了嗎？」
科學新發現，就像發現新大陸一樣令人開心呢！

別學征服者，在發現新大陸後"Now let's kill whoever lives here"。科學家引以為誡。

A modified comic pinned on a wall of the computer lab on R/V Revelle catches my eye. It pleases me although I don't know who modifies it. Revelle looks like a Spanish ship, with many conquistadors on her. The master, with an eyepatch and a hook on his right hand after modification, seems like a pirate! I love what he says when finding Patagonia. Notice that there are coccolithophorids in the seawater.
